The official launch of the Go4cosmetics platformwas held on Thursday, 14 October 2021, during the Cosmetic 360, trade fair at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. On that occasion, the two leading regions Regione Centre-Val del Loire and Regione Lombardia formalized their coordination and collaboration though the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding. Beyond the two regional authorities, the platform, that lies in the framework of the Smart Specialisation Platform for industrial modernization, promoted by European Commission, has been concretized thanks to the work of project lead institutions, the French region for economic development agency DEV’UP, Cosmetic Valley cluster, REI – Reindustria Innovazione, together with the Lombardy Cosmetics System.

The objective is the promotion of development and growth of the whole value chain for the cosmetics sector throughout a trans-regional approach, aiming to become more innovative, competitive and sustainable through time.

At the event, there was present for Lombardy Region, Fabrizio Sala, Vice-president of Lombardy Region and Education, University, Research, Innovation and Simplification minister, and Maria Vittoria Frau, Lombardy delegation to European Union, Matteo Moretti, president of Polo Tecnologico della Cosmesi, and Renato Ancorotti, president of Cosmetica Italia.

«For Polo della Cosmesi it was an important moment that seals a long time partnership with Cosmetic Valley» Matteo Moretti;

«The collaboration between two countries, as Italy and France, is a truely strategic lever to promote more effectively the high standard that marks our cosmetic products on global market. The inclination to research and innovation, that pools us, will be a powerful driving force to develop new references and satisfy the needs and desires of all the consumers» Renato Ancorotti.

The day after was dedicated to the first steering commitee, where the partners present themself, models of governance for the platform and future challenges were discussed. Other five European region participate to the initiative: Catalonia (Spain), Centro (Portugal), North-West (Romania), Olomuc Region (Czech Republic), Sardinia (Italia).

Three priorities for the future were defined by the partners:

  • Make possible a digital transition – helping in the efford of industrial modernization so that the cosmetics industry become stronger and agiler, also reminding the additional support in the framework of European Digital Strategy and Recovery plan.
  • Promote the green transition – encouraging the circular economy initiative, waste management, and the implementation of the objective of the European Green Deal and the Recovery plan.
  • Comunicate with consumers and citizen – showing the regional strong point and the attractiveness of cosmetics industry, augmenting the consumers’ awerness about the competences and the value of the sector, and developing the so-called wellness tourism, and also fostering the attractiveness of the regions involved.
